What we aim to support

ISCA can offer limited web and mailing list hosting for groups and projects that help us meet our stated goals:

  1. to promote conversation analysis as an approach to the study of social interaction on a global level.
  2. to cooperate with national and regional societies studying language and social interaction
  3. to invite and support the institutionalization of conversation analysis as an academic field at universities, research and teaching institutions on all levels
  4. to organize regular general conferences (every two or four years)
  5. to organize and promote summer/winter schools and specialized meetings on conversation analysis and the broader study of social interaction
  6. to support student and faculty training in conversation analysis

What you can request

  • WordPress hosting e.g., for conferences, workshops, seminars, and research groups
  • Use of Mailman mailing lists for hosting email discussion or announcements.
  • For advanced projects using software other than WordPress (e.g., https://emcawiki.net) we would need a full proposal with a budget for specialized/ongoing maintenance costs.

Terms of hosting:

  • Oversight by The ISCA Information Officer who will report regularly to the ISCA Board.

What we have supported in the past

ISCA has supported web hosting and mailing lists for:

  • Conferences:
  • Online Publication Projects:

What we hope to support more of in the future

  • Research groups in the Global South, or in places with less established CA communities
  • Online projects that promote learning and engagement with conversation analysis
  • Projects that institutionalize and maintain otherwise fleeting/fragile online CA resources

What to send us and when

A proposal should include:

  • A description of the project: its goals, target audience, the contributors, editorial processes, and a full budget. Be sure to include specifically what you are looking for from us and how you see the ISCA Information Officer receiving regular updates to provide the Board with oversight.
  • Any budgetary implications beyond the basic (free) WordPress/Mailing list hosting
  • Proposals should be sent to the ISCA Information Officer who will do an initial review and advise of components that should be addressed prior to review by the Board.
  • The ISCA Board meets quarterly, so we need some lead time. Ideally, proposals should be sent at least 12 months before any online launch to allow for revisions to the proposal before a second board meeting. Most proposals that are ultimately approved require revision. For consideration of your proposal at a winter meeting, please send proposals by December 1; at a spring meeting, by March 1; at a summer meeting, by June 1; at a fall meeting, by September 1.

You can find ISCA logos and branding materials to promote our support for your project
