We noticed that a theme emerged from the last sessions on human-animal and human-robot interaction, which can perhaps be subsumed under the topic of (artificial) life and animation.
As a ~ Holiday Special ~ for this last session of the year, we have decided to do an impromptu data session on an animation by Heider and Simmel from 1944<https://doi.org/10.2307/1416950>, an example of which can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTNmLt7QX8E. Their animation uses abstract shapes to tell a story, and we are interested to see whether this is analyzable from an EMCAI stance. As the designers of the technologies that we study also attempt to animate intent, agency, animacy, etc. we hope that working with this very famous and early example of animation will lead to stimulating discussions.
For next year, we would like to continue with organizing sessions around specific themes. We will devote *the last 30 minutes* of this meeting to discuss and vote on the theme for the spring using a Mentimeter. We would like to hear your voice on this, so even if you maybe cannot make it to the full session, we want to encourage you to hop in for this activity.
We hope to see you on 1st of December!
Best,
Hannah, Lynn, and Saul
