Best Antonia ********Apologies for multiple crossposting ********* Apologies for multiple crossposting ***** International Research Conference Robophilosophy Conference 2024 SOCIAL ROBOTS WITH AI: PROSPECTS, RISKS, AND RESPONSIBLE METHODS August 20-23, 2024 Aarhus University, Denmark rp2024.org CALL FOR PAPERS AND WORKSHOP PROPOSALS The recent technological leap in AI capacities accelerates the development of highly skilled social robots. But it also increases longstanding concerns about the socio-cultural implications of this emerging technology. The aim of the sixth international Robophilosophy Conference RP2024 is to address the socio-cultural, ethical, existential, and theoretical questions raised by the use of generative multimodal AIs in social robotics. For this purpose, RP2024 will bring together international researchers from the Humanities and social sciences (specializing in HRI), social robotics, and computer science. The special ambition of RP2024 is to produce actionable knowledge based on professional engagement of the foundational issues, to move beyond well-intentioned proclamations and address the expectable socio-cultural transformations of societies by social robotics in a responsible fashion. The Robophilosophy Conference Series so far has featured the world?s largest events for Humanities research in and on social robotics. Given the urgency of research-based regulations, experts on society and experts on technology need to collaborate more closely. RP2024 challenges Humanities researchers to showcase how conceptual and phenomenological research can contribute to this collaborative effort; RP2024 challenges engineers to take their new responsibilities seriously and to contribute technical facts and prospects to this interdisciplinary event. Format and conference topics The conference will feature about 80-100 talks in plenaries, special workshops, and parallel sessions of reviewed research papers.?? Online participation is possible. Papers should address the selected conference topics. Timeline Submission deadline for proposals for workshops/panels: January 31, 2024. Notifications February 20. Submission deadline for short papers and posters: February 15, 2024. Notifications April 2, 2024. Our next meeting will be in a couple of days, on Monday October 30th: - BST (London): 09:00-10:30 - CET (Berlin, Stockholm, Paris): 10:00-11:30 - EDT (Boston, New York): 04:00-05:30 - Hong Kong: 16:00-17:30 Zoom link: https://liu-se.zoom.us/j/69884330110#success This meeting we would like to do two things: 1) discuss where we are with the network and where we could go, e.g., potential future workshops we could collaborate on, how we would like to use these meetings, etc. 2) we would like to use the later half of the meeting to further discuss the readings of the last session with those who are interested. Last meeting, some very interesting points were raised, which Lynn will very briefly summarize during the meeting. We hope to use the summary as a jumping off point to discuss potential takeaways from these readings relevant to the study of HCI/HRI, which we did not yet arrive at during the last session. For those who have not downloaded them yet, the readings are again attached to this e-mail. We hope to see you the 30th!
